love thy differences™ is our mission, our mantra, our driving force.
when we stop trying to change the way we look and we embrace, celebrate, love thy differences, we liberate ourselves to lead bold and not so well-behaved lives.
in 1993, we set out to redefine what a swimsuit could be and how it could make us feel. our idea was simple - to create a collection of stand-alone bra-sized swimwear separates engineered with the precise fit of lingerie and cut from colors, textures and prints like the clothes in our closet. when you put on a swimsuit that celebrates the rockstar you are, there's nothing you can't accomplish. today, our collection includes bra-size tops from AA to E cup and bottoms and maillots in sizes 1- 16 as well as ready-to-wear and accessories dedicated to the feminine fierce.
well-behaved bikinis seldom make history shindigs
we open our doors to connect diverse groups of women to celebrate the hell yes spirit!
at our soirees, we unveil new styles, host fit seminars, salute a new season, introduce the work of other women we love... sometimes we just feel the need to raise a glass.

in our stores and studio combined we are 35 women and frank, our cutter. small business is the engine of communities, cities, states and countries around the globe. we couldn't have gotten our business off the ground without the support of so many - including local suppliers, vendors and factories. we pour a ton of love into each step of the process and we are incredibly proud that our damn fine goods are designed, made and sold by damn fine folks across america.
in our boutiques we celebrate love thy differences, meet extraordinarily interesting gals and work together to inspire each gal to be confident in her choices. if the suit doesn’t fit, it’s the suit that is flawed, not the body. stop by our stores in new york and california for a personal fitting, some good chi and a glass of prosecco.

MALIA MILLS BIO
For over twenty years, Malia Mills has pioneered an inclusive and inspiring voice on the subject of women and beauty. In 1993, Mills launched her luxurious collection of bra-sized swimwear separates to critical acclaim: “When Malia Mills started her swimwear business she started a veritable body image revolution.”—VOGUE.
Mills started dyeing fabric, making patterns and sewing swimwear out of her apartment in downtown New York City by day while waitressing at the Odeon at night. "New York is an incredible place to start a business -- everyone here has tons of hustle and is ready to pitch in. We're a bootstrapped business but I was fortunate to have had tons of help since day one." Today, Mills runs the business with her sister Carol Mills, a team of 35 women and Frank, the cutter.
In 2005, the company won a first place award for Business Success, Entrepreneurial Success and Contribution to Success for Women within New York City from the New York City Commission on Women's Issues. Mills attests, "When you put on a swimsuit that celebrates the rockstar you are, there's nothing you can't accomplish."
Malia Mills is passionate about Made in America. The company manufactures its goods in New York, New Jersey and California. Says Mills, "Small business is the engine of cities, states, countries, the world. I couldn't have gotten the business off the ground without the support of so many -- including local suppliers, vendors and factories."
In 2014, after 15 years in New York City's garment center, Malia Mills moved its headquarters to Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The move inspired the company to expand the production network they had established in the Garment District to include factories in Brooklyn and Queens.
With LoveThyDifferences™ as her mission, mantra and driving force, Mills has expanded her signature swimwear collection to include ready-to-wear and accessories sold in ten company owned brick and mortar stores across the US, select specialty stores and online.
Malia Mills has been celebrated in the news with features in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Vogue, Glamour, Vanity Fair and more. According to Blackbook, "Somehow edgy swimwear designer Malia Mills managed to refute the notion that bathing suits looked best on rail-thin models, without losing her positive attitude or alienating anyone (even the glossies) from singing her praises." Mills is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
Mills was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to Etna, New Hampshire at 13. Mills studied design, draping and pattern making at Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris and graduated from Cornell University in 1990.
